Can You Get Out of Your Own Way?

Most of us realize, when we have trouble reaching the goals we set for ourselves, it’s because we can’t seem to get out of our own way. We set a goal and then do those things which actually prevent success.

For example, Sara wanted to lose 40 pounds. After seeing an ad on TV she bought into the program. She was thrilled when she lost 4 lbs the very first week on her program, but then… she gave up and immediately gained back the weight she lost with a couple of extra pounds thrown in.

Sara is typical of many people who desire to change their lives but fail to follow through. They think its just because they lack willpower. The truth is more complicated than that. In fact, willpower has little to do with it. You just need to get out of your own way.

We are creatures of habit

Humans are creatures of habit. Our subconscious mind wants us to repeat doing those things that feel good or that are comfortable. It is the subconscious and the limbic part of the brain that drive cravings and make us want to do things emotionally rather than intellectually. We know we need to do, or not do, things to reach a goal, yet our emotions don’t let us get out of our own way.

Anyone can be hypnotized. The better you are at relaxing and using your own imagination, the better you will do in hypnosis. It’s not about making a change… It’s about allowing it! You are always in complete control and aware during this safe and holistic process.
