Sound confusing? Each modality, or discipline if you prefer, uses techniques of the other and both can give the same appearance to anyone looking on, but they are definitely used for different things.
Hypnosis uses an outside influence (the hypnotist) to help create an optimum change in thinking so personal goals can be achieved. Such is the case with someone who wants to break a habit. The hypnotist helps the client to relax and gives the client positive suggestions in such a way as to help motivate the desired change and remove the blocks which otherwise make change difficult.
Self-hypnosis is simply hypnosis without the hypnotist. The guidance is internal or self provided.
According to Wikipedia ” Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing their mind on a particular object, thought or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.”
Although they are all different, I highly recommend each. Hypnosis to achieve your change, self-hypnosis to reinforce and strengthen your new behavior, and meditation just to clear your mind and become more aware of yourself.
While I help clients with my hypnosis techniques and teach them how to do self-hypnosis, I do not teach them how to meditate.
